In these challenging times fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic, building up our nation’s inventory of life-saving ventilators is crucial. Reliable low-pressure measurement and flow control is critical to the performance of these essential machines.

Ventilators help a patient breathe by assisting the lungs to inhale and exhale air.  The principal function of a ventilator is to pump oxygen-rich air into the lungs (oxygenation), and assist in the removal of carbon dioxide from the lungs (ventilation).

Pressure measurement instrumentation is a key component of ventilator machines. A positive pressure ventilator is constructed with a compressible air reservoir/turbine, air and oxygen, multiple valves and tubes, and a disposable or reusable patient circuit. The air reservoir is pneumatically compressed several times a minute to deliver an air/oxygen mixture to the patient.

If a turbine is used, it pushes air through the ventilator, using a flow valve adjusting pressure to meet patient-specific requirements. When over pressure is released, the patient­­ will exhale passively due to the lungs' elasticity.

NOSHOK 200 Series Low Pressure Diaphragm Dry Pressure Gauges are a reliable solution for ventilator applications, offering vacuum ranges through 0 psi to 10 psi. Common ranges for ventilators include 60 cmH₂O to 100cmH₂O. The gauges are available in 2-1/2" and 4" gauge sizes.  Additionally, multiple options and accessories are available including Stainless Steel bezel and u-clamp.

NOSHOK 300 Series Compact OEM Transducers offer another pressure measurement solution for ventilators. These transducers address low pressure ranges including 1, 5 and 15 psi and are available with current or voltage output.

NOSHOK 100 Series Mini, Hard Seat Needle Valves and 150 Series Mini, Soft Tip Needle Valves can be used to manage flow for pressure adjustment in ventilator applications, and are 100% helium leak tested to 1 x 10-4 ml/s for guaranteed performance and reliability.
